TRUANCY PREVENTION PROGRAM
(Deann, Joyce, & Mary)
The Truancy Prevention Program is a resource provided by the Juvenile Court of the Twenty-second Judicial District of Arkansas in cooperation with Saline County's five school districts. The purpose of this program is to reduce the number of unnecessary school absences and to intervene in problem behavior as it is recognized. For each referral to the program, a truancy officer visits with the student at school or contact the parent and child by phone or letter. Meetings with parents, counselors, or school principals as scheduled, as needed, to determine the reasons for inattendance and to plan a remedial course of action. Recommendations and referrals may include parenting workshops, conflict management classes, counseling, alternative school, Sanction School, the GED program, Youth Challenge, or Job Corps. When early intervention proves unsuccessful, and it is necessary for a truancy petition to be filed in Juvenile Court, the truancy officer reports and make recommendations to the court. Once a student is referred to the truancy office, his school attendance is monitored throughout that year, and the student revisited, as needed.
